Prevalence and Socio-Demographic Predictors of Overweight and Obesity Risks among Adolescents Aged 15-18 Years in Kuwait

Objective: Obesity is a contributing factor to various non-communicable diseases. This study aimed at determining the prevalence and predictors of overweight obesity among secondary school adolescents in Kuwait, problem that has not been studied past few years. Methods: investigation, which adopted cross-sectional design, was conducted public schools all six Kuwaiti governorates, via. Al- Ahmadi, Jahra, Hawalli, Al Asimah, Farwaniyah Mubarak Kabeer. Secondary students aged 15 18 years old were recruited using cluster sampling. Data collected from 4,958 eligible participants analyzed Chi-square test for association relation, multiple logistic regression determine significant obesity. Result: Our findings reported 13.7% 2.3% obesity, they also showed adolescent males some districts had higher tendency be obese. Also, our indicated only minority obese (n=115; 2.3%). A analysis respondents’ significantly associated with gender district. Girls more likely non-obese (AOR=1.702, 95%CI: 1.160-2.498, P=0.007).
